Commissions

Commissioned works make up a large portion of Jenny’s working week and are one of the things she loves about being a professional artist. When painting commissioned work, Jenny maintains her own style of painting and requires a degree of creative licence. Spontaneity while painting commissions allows her to find that little bit magic in the piece, that is just for the client. Meeting and connecting with the client are an important part of the process. If you’re interested in working with Jenny on a commissioned piece, you can find more information here >. FORM**

Where do we start?

Jenny will meet with you, either face to face or on zoom. Prior to this meeting, Jenny will ask that you view her catalogue of work. When you meet, you’ll discuss what you like and don’t like – particularly around colours and responses to specific pieces. You’ll use this time to refine the piece’s subject or image and then move on to colours, size, etc. You’ll also talk about where the painting will be hung because that often impacts the commission details. While you’re chatting about your commission Jenny will be capturing your ideas in her sketchbook. Once you’ve agreed on a concept and refined the details, you’ll be ready to move on to the next stage.

You can view Jenny’s Instagram gallery here.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the size of the piece, and the type of piece you are looking for. The initial price is for an unframed piece.

Can you paint this photo for me?

If I am working from a photo, it can be used to inspire the piece, but I am an abstract landscape artist. I would use the photo to inform elements of the piece and can create a representation of the scene in the photo but would not produce a painted copy of the photo.

How long will it take?

Timeframes vary depending on the size and type of piece. It is usually around six to eight weeks. If you have a deadline, for example it is a gift for someone, this can be discussed at the initial meeting.

What is the process after the initial meeting?

The second stage of the process is the contract and deposit. Jenny and you will both sign the contract and you will pay a 50% deposit. Once this is done Jenny will start work on studio sketches for your piece.

What’s a studio sketch?

A studio sketch is a small version of the painting, usually done in Jenny’s sketchbook, that happens BEFORE she puts paintbrush to canvas. During this stage, Jenny will create a mini version of what the finished product might look like. This will give you an idea of what you can expect for the full-sized version. It’s also an opportunity to refine the piece, as needed. If you have any suggestions or changes, this is the stage to do it. Jenny can tweak, alter and improve the design until it’s perfect for you.

After the studio sketch is complete and you are happy with it, Jenny commences work on the painting. When the piece is complete, Jenny will contact you to arrange the final payment, and collection or shipping of your painting.

Can you paint my partner/child/pet in the landscape?

I can paint a suggestion of a figure into the painting that can be interpreted as someone or something, but I am not a portrait artists. If you’re looking for a portrait, I can recommend some artists who specialise in portraiture.

Would you paint in your style, but in water colour instead?

My preferred medium is oils, but I am open to other mediums so would be happy to discuss this.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, I can provide a quote for shipping your piece.

Will my commission come ready to hang?

If you would like a completed piece framed and ready to hang, I can provide this. I use a local craftsman to make my frames and all frames are made to fit the individual paintings. I can provide sample of the frames available.
